Who we are

NZ School of Vocational Education and Training

We are located in the heart of Auckland CBD. We saw the current shortage of skilled health care workers in New Zealand and were excited to be in a position to meet this need by offering Nationally recognised training in this area.

What makes us different and enables us to stand out is that we are a boutique school, training a small number of students each year, therefore giving you a more personalised experience.

Our staff care about people. To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours, and this starts with quality training.

When you come and study with us - you become part of our whānau, where we genuinely care about you, your needs and your future career-you’re not just a number, and you won’t get lost in the crowd.

Our vision

Our vision is for NZSVET to be considered a leader in quality education and training in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a Kaupapa or purpose that represents the principles of Te Tiriti o Aotearoa, our multicultural focus, the Tamaki Makaurau context where we are located, and the values of our staff. Our vision is to achieve academic excellence through quality standards and practices that meet stakeholder needs now, and in the future.

Our mission

Location

NZSVET’s mission is to show leadership and academic excellence through our the education and training courses. These courses are based on a purpose or Kaupapa that is applied through best practices and continuous improvement.

Leadership and academic excellence are manifested through the principles of the Titiri o Aotearoa that form the foundation of our kaupapa. Kawanatanga- honourable governance is evident in strong leadership and management by inviting Māori stakeholders ,staff and students to genuinely engage and contribute in decision making. This principle is further reinforced through the expression of honesty, justice, loyalty, responsibility and empathy in all areas school management. Rangatiratanga- self-determination is reflected in our belief in the rights of Māori, staff and students to have agency, voice, and choice in what happens in our school. Self-determination is expressed through the values of communication and listening, justice, patience and empathy in our staff and learner centred approach to support. Ōritetanga- equity is the belief that all students have the right and ability to access the same opportunities, regardless of their ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or abilities. This is reflected in the content and application of policies procedures and systems used across the school. Our understanding of equity is grounded in the values of open communication, compassion, honesty, and understanding, which are evidenced in school policies and procedures. These values are particularly apparent in our school’s marketing, enrolment, delivery of training, resourcing, the student-centred approach to teaching, and our focus on learner support.

NZSVET delivers quality vocational education and training that exceeds industry standards, cultivates a skilled workforce equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow and supports personal goals. Our mission is to empower individuals with knowledge, skills and values required to succeed in diverse professional settings and contribute meaningfully to society.

Our purpose

In a world dominated by an ageing society, the demand for the provision of care that older people expect and deserve is rapidly outstripping current support staff numbers and ability. The New Zealand School of Vocational Education and Trainings purpose is to meet that demand and, by extending Health Care Assistant knowledge and skills, to optimise the standard of care received by aged people in New Zealand.

New Zealand School of Vocational Education and Training is built on a value system that holds caring, respect and knowledge at its core. As a training organisation we provide leadership in health care support by:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders – aged care providers, health care agencies, sector organisations, peak bodies, and students

  • Identifying training needs – present and future

  • Programme development – actively developing and sharing innovative, high-quality training programmes

  • Demonstrating best practice across the sector
